Lawrence Collings, artist, photographer, script writer and film-maker. Born Ropely, Queensland, 1910. Studied art at Brisbane Technical College, East Sydney Technical College and St. Martins, London, 1936-39. Won AGFA-GAEUERT award, 1939. Became member of Minature Camera group, 1940. Photographer in the RAAF, 1944-1947. Photographs reproduced in "Women", "The Home", "B.P." magazines, "Contemporary Photography" 1947 and "Sydney Morning Herald". Worked as art director in Australia's largest advertising agency, 1955-70. Made eight 16mm films, including "Epstein" from an exhibition at Queensland Art Gallery and "French Art Today" (purchased by the Gallery), "Youth Creates" for Joy Ewart in 1960 and "Adventure in Art" at the Workshop Arts Centre, 1972. Published Australian travel photography books, "Do-it-yourself around Australia" 1972, "Tasmania" 1974 and "On and around Sydney Harbour", 1978. Produced photographic exhibitions "Wanderings", 1983 and "Reflection on Sydney Opera House - a tribute to Joern Utzon", 1986.
