  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    David McDiarmid, born December 1952 in Tasmania, visual artist, writer and gay activist was exhibited in a range of commercial galleries and his work is represented in the major national and state galleries of Australia as well as in private and corporate collections in Australia, North America and Europe. Best known for the radical AIDS related work and poster art produced in the years leading up to his death, he was the most popular artist in the 1994 exhibition 'Dont Leave Me This Way - Art in the Age of AIDS' at the National Gallery of Australia. McDiarmid wrote his autobiographical essay 'A Short History of Facial Hair', published in 1994. David McDiarmid died of AIDS in June 1995.
