    Lieutenant Colonel John Brady Nash, surgeon and Member of the NSW Legislative Council was the son of Andrew Nash, surgeon, and Margaret Brady. He was born in 1857 and married Agnes McCormick on 5 April 1888. They had 6 daughters, two of whom died as infants. He applied for a commission in the Australian Army Medical Corps in Nov. 1914 and embarked from Sydney at the age of 57, on board Transport A55 Kyarra. He served as a surgeon in Egypt and the Peninsular with the 2nd Australian General Hospital and returned to Melbourne on HMAT Themistocles, 2 January 1916.
  • Scope and Content
    Letters written during WWI to his daughters Caroline Margaret, Josephine Mary Nash, Kathleen and Agnes Mary Therea (Sister Mary Hyacinth Dominican Convent, West Maitland and Moss Vale) addressed using his daughters' pet names Buddie, Tabbie, Car, Caggie, Joseph[ine], Kitty and Mollie.
    Letters were written on board SS Kyarra, Ceylon, and from No. 2 General Hospital at Mena House, Cairo, Dec. 1914-May 1915; from c/o Director of Medical Services (D.M.S.) Cairo, June-Sept. 1915; from Alexandria before being posted to Anzac, on board RMS Ismailia and SS Al Kahera, from Mudros and Anzac, Oct. 1915, and from No. 1 General Hospital Heliopolis, Nov. 1915.
