The Sobraon was built in 1866 and gained a reputation as the fastest passenger sailing ship on the London-Australia route. She was bought by the NSW government in 1891 and anchored in Sydney Harbour as a school ship for delinquent boys.
  • Scope and Content
The Sobraon Occasional was a newspaper issued on board ship during the outward voyage to Melbourne from 7 October to 26 December 1875. It was produced in a small number of manuscript copies which were circulated to pasengers. When the ship reached Melbourne, copies were printed by Mason, Firth & M'Cutcheon as souvenirs.

This volume was owned by one of the passengers, P. M. Bassano. It has been annotated, and manuscript programs of concerts on board the ship have been fixed at the end.
