  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    John Graham Antill Pockley was born on 14 August 1891 In St Leonards, New South Wales. Educated at the Sydney Church of England Grammar School, he served as a Private with the Australian Army Medical Corps Hospital Transports. Between July 1915 and January 1916, he was aboard the hospital ship, Karoola, which transported sick and wounded soldiers between England and Australia. Later promoted to Lieutenant, he then served with the 33rd Infantry Battalion in France until his death in action on 30 March 1918 in Hangard Wood, near Villers-Bretonneaux, France. He married Nancy Julia Sargood (1890-1974) on 22 January 1915, with whom he had two sons, one of whom died in childbirth.
