  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Herbert Ernest Ross was born on 4 March 1868 in Inverell, New South Wales, and after being educated in Sydney and Edinburgh, he worked in Queensland in mining, engineering and railway construction. In 1902, he began working as an architect and in 1911, he co-founded the architectural practice, Ross & Rowe, with H. Ruskin Rowe. In 1913, he married Doris Anne Howgate (1893-1979), with whom he had a son, Herbert Kenneth (1914-1971), and a daughter, Shirley. He died suddenly in Pyrmont, Sydney, on 12 August 1937.
