  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Frederick James Elliott was born in 1864 in Paignton, England, and emigrated to Australia in 1876 when his father was appointed teacher at Humpybong School near Redcliffe, Queensland. He worked as a lithographic artist in the Queensland Government Printing Office from July 1896 to approximately 1903 and was active as an artist in Sydney up until the 1920s, predominantly painting Sydney Harbour (known as Port Jackson). He died in Paddington, Sydney, on 1 March 1949.

    A watercolour depicting the Milsons Point Ferry Arcade at Milsons Point, Sydney, in 1890. Visible are the tram depot with the words Metropolitan Ferry, several men and women in period costume, and a large landmark fig tree which was felled during a storm on 31 December 1900.
