  • General note

    Transcribers notes:
The letters are from my great-great-granduncle John Barr to his brother Andrew Barr (my great-great-grandfather). Both were Scottish handloom weavers, but John had the misfortune to join a group of armed rebels, shortly before they were intercepted by a troop of government cavalry, and thus became embroiled in the "Battle" of Bonnymuir, was taken prisoner and as a result was transported to New South Wales. In addition to the letters, there is a selection from the diary of a Stirling doctor Dr. Lucas, who witnessed the hanging and beheading of the two ringleaders, Baird and Hardy, plus a selection of newspaper accounts of the general state of unrest and of the hanging and beheading.
