  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Robert Lineham Wallace (1912-2001) had a great interest in two subjects: cricket and the Boer War. From 1924 to 1938 he kept scrapbooks relating to Australian cricket, sourcing articles from Sydney, regional and interstate newspapers. He wrote many articles and books including 'The Australians at the Boer War : the story of the Australians who served in the South African War 1899 to 1902', published in 1976 and 'The circumstances surrounding the Siege of Elands River Post : a Boer War study', published in 1992.
  • Scope and Content
One notebook and fifteen scrapbooks concerning Australian cricket during the period 1876 to 1938, compiled by Robert L. Wallace. The scrapbooks contain clippings from newspapers throughout Australia which relate largely to international tours and Test matches, but also include articles about Australian interstate (Sheffield Shield) and local competitions. Some scrapbooks were created by reusing telephone directories, account books, a school exercise book and a journal.
