Joe Frost (1974-) is a Sydney artist. He graduated from UNSW’s College of Fine Arts in 1995, returning to complete his Masters in 2002. He has been exhibiting his work in private and group shows since 1999. He has also lectured in drawing at the National Art School.

This collection of drawings was created by Australian artist Joe Frost during his residency at the Library as part of the Drawing the Library program in 2016. Frost spent 2-3 days at the Library from October to November 2016. During his residency he produced a series of drawings documenting activity at the Library, depicting readers, visitors and the building itself. Following his residency, he continued to work on these drawings in his studio, developing his ideas further.

Comprises drawings and sketchbooks resulting from the 'Drawing the Library', an occasional artists' residency at State Library of New South Wales, 2015. This collection is a record of spaces within the Mitchell Library and the Dame Marie Bashir Reading Room, State Library of New South Wales, and the people who use them, as interpreted by an established Sydney artist. The collection includes pictures ranging from large, finished works to working drawings and sketchbooks, providing an insight into the artist’s private, creative process.
