    Robert Howe (1795-1829) was government printer for the Colony of New South Wales, following his father George Howe, who had held the position from soon after his arrival in the colony as a convict in 1800 until his death in 1821. Robert Howe also continued to edit and publish the ‘Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser’, the colony’s first newspaper, which his father had established in 1803.

    Acquired by the vendor from a private Melbourne collector in 2012
  • Scope and Content
    Memorandum of account, on a single sheet folded into two pages, of printing services performed for the government of New South Wales from 1 October 1826 to 29 September 1827, signed by Robert Howe. The memorandum lists the printing charges incurred by over twenty branches of government, including the Colonial Secretary, Carter's Barracks, Female Factory, Harbour Master and Surveyor of Roads. The total charge of £1428 includes the cost of advertisements placed in the ‘Sydney Gazette’ from 1 January to 29 September 1827.
