  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Llewellyn Ross Harradence (1924-2020) was born in Sydney on 21 August 1924, and was an apprentice with his father’s glass etching company, A.E. Harradence & Co Pty Ltd, when it was based in Surry Hills in the early 1940s. The company, established in 1919, won the contract to etch designs for various glass doors at the State Library of NSW which were installed in early 1942. This work was done by Ross and his father, Bert. Ross took over the business from his father in 1951 and ran it for more than 30 years. Ross married his childhood sweetheart, Marion Philpott, in 1946. The couple had four sons, the youngest of whom, Stewart, followed Ross into the family business, which was sold in 2011 but continues to operate in St Peters, NSW.
