  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

The monthly journal Parthenon was founded and edited by the teenage Ethel Turner and her sister Lilian Turner, the first issue appearing on 1 January 1889. This issue, September 1890, was edited by their friend William Leslie Curnow (1867-1927), a journalist with the Sydney Morning Herald. This presentation copy of the magazine was likely to be either Weiss’ personal copy or a copy presented to him by his cousin Ada Weiss, whose signature appears on the pages of Hermes bound within the volume. Weiss was a friend of Ethel Turner and had contributed to the earliest issues of the Parthenon.
The Turner sisters continued to edit the monthly journal until its final issue of 4 April 1892.
