Label attached to back of frame, signed by P. Mander Jones and dated 4.3.55, inscribed:

    Wedgwood Medallions
Presented to the Public Library of New South Wales by Sir David Maughan, March 4th, 1955.

These medallions are the moulds for designs for medallions to be used on Wedgwood porcelain. They are the work of Henry Thompson, 1802-1880, employee of the Wedgwood firm, and designer of monograms. The papier-mache impressions were used when a traveller procured orders for porcelain.

The elder brother of Henry Thompson was John Thompson, 1800-1861, who came to New South Wales and became Deupty Surveyor General under Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell.
