    William Wiles, a plasterer’s labourer, enlisted in the A.I.F. aged 32, Aug. 1914 and served with the 1st Battalion, 1st Infantry Brigade at Gallipoli. He was struck by shrapnel in the head 6 Dec. 1915 and invalided back to Australia on the Kanowna, Mar. 1916

    Patrick Whitty, a miner, enlisted on 9 Feb. 1915 aged 30 and served at Gallipoli. He was injured Sept. 1915 and returned to Australia on the Kanowna, Jan. 1916

    Robert John Kenny, a bushman of Narromine, N.S.W. enlisted 25 Aug. 1914, aged 36 and served with the HQ Signallers, 4th Battalion at Gallipoli where he was wounded, 21 May. 1915

    Thomas Adair Cameron Barr, a warehouseman of Glasgow, Scotland enlisted with the A.I.F. in Sydney aged 23, Aug. 1914. He was wounded at Gallipoli, May 1915 and invalided to Australia

    Harold Arthur Britten, an insurance agent of Parramatta, Sydney enlisted aged 41 on 14 Oct. 1914 and served with the 1st Battalion at Gallipoli where he was wounded, Aug. 1915. He was invalided to Australia with shellshock on the Karoola, Nov. 1915
  • Scope and Content
    Anecdotes and a poem written by soldiers and compiled by A.G. Stephens, editor of the N.S.W. Anzac memorial which was published by the Returned Soldiers Association of New South Wales. The short narratives were written on a form letter and intended to be published in the Anzac memorial book, but were received by the editor too late for publication. The authors are Pte. William Wiles, Pte. P. Whitty, Pte. J. Miller, R.J. Kenny, Corporal T.A.C. Barr and Pte. H.A. Britten
