    Heather Gell was born in Glenelg, South Australia, 1896. She was educated in Adelaide where she gained the Diploma of the Kindergarten Training college in 1918. Three years lager she left Australia for London where she attended the London School of Dalcroze Eurhythmics for two years leading to the award of teachers' certificate.

    Returning to Adelaide she established her own studio specialising in Eurhythmics. In 1930, she travelled to England again and studied for the Licentiate degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In Adelaide, following her return, she was appointed to the staff of the Elder Conservatorium. She was active in the arts in Adelaide and contributed to the city's centenary celebrations in 1936. In 1937, Miss Gell returned to London where she furthered her studies and taught at the Dalcroze School.

    When she returned to Australia in 1938 she settled in Sydney where she established the Dalcroze Society of Australia and the Dalcroze Teachers' Union. From 1938, she worked in radio on Music through movement, and from 1958 to 1967 on television on Heather Gell presents. She was on the staff of the ABC and the Conservatorium until 1965. Following her retirement she returned to Adelaide. In 1977, she was awarded the MBE for services to music. Heather Gell died in 1988.
