    Private Edwin Walter Phelps, a clerk of Ryde, New South Wales, enlisted 20 April 1916 at the age of 15 years 10 months and embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A68 Anchises, 24 Aug. 1916. He served with the 45th Battalion until he was transferred to the 13th Battalion on 8 March 1917. He was wounded and taken prisoner in Apr. 1917 at Bullecourt in France while attacking the Hindenburg line, was repatriated in Dec. 1918 and returned to Sydney on the China, 11 June 1919
