    George Strickland Kingston arrived in South Australia in 1836 as Deputy Surveyor to Colonel William Light. He was a principal designer of the town plan of Adelaide. In 1838 he resigned from the Survey Department and commenced business as a civil engineer and architect. He was knighted in 1870.

    Register of the rain gauge kept on West Terrace, Adelaide from 1858 to 1875. Also includes newscuttings with tables of rain fall from 1838 to 1865.
