George Strickland Kingston arrived in South Australia in 1836 as Deputy Surveyor to Colonel William Light. He was a principal designer of the town plan of Adelaide. In 1838 he resigned from the Survey Department and commenced business as a civil engineer and architect. He was knighted in 1870. - Scope and ContentRegister of the rain gauge kept on West Terrace, Adelaide from 1858 to 1875. Also includes newscuttings with tables of rain fall from 1838 to 1865.
