This portrait was digitised in 2005 as part of the Sesquicentenary of Responsible Government in NSW 1856-2006 Project.

Clarke was a bookseller, stationer and music publisher who employed several photographers to supply photographic portraits of prominent citizens for sale in his premises at 5 & 6 Market buildings, George Street, Sydney.
