This sketchbook was originally intended as a joint publishing venture between professional artist Samuel Thomas Gill & amateur watercolourist Dr John Thomas Doyle. However the project to produce a lavish lithographed sketchbook was never completed. For further information on the association between Gill and Doyle, as well as a critique of the drawings, see Dr. Doyle's sketches in Australia : a collection of prints from the original watercolour drawings in the Mitchell Library / S.T.
