  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    On 2 September 1886 Thomas Walker died at Yaralla. In a codicil to his will, 100,000 of his fortune was set aside for the building and maintenance of a convalescent hospital on 12 hectares of the estate at Rocky Point.

    Sulman and Power, architectural firm, was commissioned to design the hospital which was built between 1891-1893.

    The hospital complex consisted of wards, administrative offices, service areas and entertainment hall (chapel), water-gate, gardeners cottage, gatehouse, laundry, mortuary, stables, and in 1894 the Joanna Walker Memorial Childrens Convalescent Hospital was opened in the grounds adjacent to the main hospital
