  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Frederick Charles Danvers was Registrar and Superintendent of Records of the India Office from 1884 to 1898. Between 1893 and 1895 he made a number of visits to the State Archives in The Hague to inspect and arrange for the copying of official Dutch records of the seventeenth century relating to the East Indies. These translations are in Dutch with some English translations are now held in the India Office, London
  • Scope and Content
    The documents deal with all activities of the Dutch in the East from the regulation of trade to the treatment of indigenous people, and particularly relations with Chinese, French, Spanish, English and Portuguese traders and officials. The following three groups of records have been microfilmed: (1) Letters from India 1600-99 with English translations 1600-70. (2) Letters from the Dutch East India Company to India 1614-1700, with English translations. (3) Letters from the Governor General at Batavia to various factories 1617-99, with English translations 1617-1643.
