  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Daniel Manders Beere was born in Ireland in 1833. During the 1850's he worked in Toronto, Canada with his uncle, William Armstrong, and Humphrey Lloyd Hime, in the prominent engineering, surveying and photographic firm of Armstrong, Beere, and Hime. In 1863 Beere arrived in New Zealand and worked in the North Island as an engineer and surveyor.     The artist of the drawings is not known, although one is initialled ""E.L.""
    The alternate titles in square brackets for Nos. 13, 19, and 20 are taken from the TAPUHI database, Alexander Turnbull Library, National Library of New Zealand.
    No. 26 is a loose photograph that has been added to the volume.
    At the back of the volume are ten individual strips of paper with handwritten titles for each drawing. These titles correspond with those on the album page.
