  • Scope and Content
    Peacock depicts the rear of the building, and has enlivened the scene with the addition of picturesque detail of townsfolk going about their daily business, including some Aboriginal people.

    To cope with the growing demands of the Customs Office, pressed by the expansion of maritime trade to the colony, Mortimer Lewis designed this Greek-revival style building which was completed in 1845.
