  • General note

Glenrock, seen here from New South Head Road, was a single-storeyed cottage standing on what is now the site of Ascham school at Edgecliff. It was built in 1836 by Thomas Smith, a Sydney merchant. The Smith family also patronised Conrad Martens. Although Martens' work was undoubtedly seen as fine art, when compared to Peacock's more prosaic topographical productions, many colonists employed both artists.
