Emmeline was the daughter of Hannibal Hawkins and Anna Maria Macarthur (nee King). Her family home was the 'Vineyard' Parramatta. In 1847 she married George Leslie, son of William and Jane Leslie (of Aberdeenshire, Scotland), and brother of Patrick & Walter who had opened up the Darling Downs region to settlement in 1840. After George Leslie's death in 1860, Emmeline married Danish sailor Captain Vigrant Falbe in 1865 and settled in England
