Sir Hugh Robert Denison, tobacco manufacturer, newspaper proprietor and philanthropist was born at Forbes, NSW in 1865, the son of Robert Dixson. In 1907 he changed his surname by deed poll to Denison. He formed the Sun Newspaper Ltd in 1910 and remained chairman until 1940 the year of his death.
