Dr Peter Cameron, theologian and lawyer, was born in 1945. Both his grandfathers were ministers, his father a lawyer. As a young man he toyed with a career in music and was a student briefly at the Royal Academy of Music in London (1963-1964). He then studied law, theology and philosophy and worked as a public prosecutor in Dundee (1979-1983).

Dr Cameron did not become a minister until 1984, at the age of 38, at the St. Philip's Church, Joppa, Edinburgh.

He arrived from Scotland in 1991 to take up the position as Principal of St Andrew's College, at the University of Sydney.

In 1993, Dr Cameron was charged with heresy, for casting doubt on the validity of St Paul's teachings on the place of women in society during his sermon given to the Dorcas Rally at the Ashfield Church, 2 March 1992

He resigned from the ministry of the Presbyterian Church in Australia in 1994, and returned to Scotland in 1996.

Dr Cameron has written a trilogy of books on his experience.
