  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Norman Linehan following his discharge from the Army after WWII worked for May and Baker, manufacturers of chemical supplies including photographic materials, and also as a freelance professional photographer. In addition to covering functions such as weddings etc., he worked frequently on cruise ships. He became involved in sports car clubs, including rally and race meetings.
He was also very closely involved in the postwar Australian jazz scene. He worked as a photographer, record producer, journalist, administrator and office bearer in jazz clubs in New South Wales and Melbourne. Throughout the seventies he gave up all other work to concentrate on jazz archival activities. He attended [and photographed] jazz venues and clubs throughout Australia, including jazz festivals and the annual Australian Jazz Convention. -- Bruce Johnson, Apr 1991 (see contents list for further biographical details pp.i-ii)
