Born in Sydney in 1908, Lyndon Dadswell had a distinguished career as a sculpter and art educator. During his life he won many commissions and prizes including the Wynne Prize (1933), the Newcastle Memorial Art Prize (1955) and the Encycolopaedia Britannica Award for Art and Education (1968). In 1978 he received the CMG for services to art. He was head of sculpture at East Sydney Technical College from 1938 to 1955 and head of fine arts at the college from 1967 to 1968. He served in the 2nd AIF during World War II and was badly wounded by a trench mortar in Syria which left him partially blinded.
