    On a discarded backing board, now mounted with watercolour, is written in ink, probably in late nineteenth/early twentieth century hand: Guests assembled at the wedding of Adelaide (second daughter of Frederick and Elizabeth Garling of Sydney) with Sloper Cox, youngest son of Captain William Cox of "Hobartville", Richmond, NSW - The ceremony took place at St. Peters, Churh of England, Richmond on 19th February 1856 - The scene depicts the hall, and landing at top of stone stair case in the old "Hobartville" mansion - The painting is by F. Garling, the father of the bride - F. Garling 1856
