    Correspondence, being letters received by Thomas Hassall, 1818-1828; letters received and miscellaneous papers of James S. Hassall, 1856-1895.

    Thomas Hassall, letters received, 1818-1828, include letters concerning business and financial matters; and letters concerning convicts, being letters from family, usually in England, requesting details of the whereabouts and well-being of convicts including Sarah Thornton, James Boonham, William Giles Smith, William Sidney Smith, William Barrett, John Morris, William Hamilton, David Smith, and William Bursill.

    James S. Hassall, letters received and miscellaneous papers, 1857-1895, includes letters received from family members, Catherine Payne Hassall (5), 1868-1869, Lucy Hassall, Robert Hassall, Kate Hassall, and Emily Hassall; letters concerning legal and financial matters, 1856-1869; and letters from prisoners at Berrima Gaol including John Taylor, John Druitt, Hugh Vaughan, and Billy Widebay, an Aboriginal prisoner, 1869-1873. Letters usually written by gaolers and signed by prisoners with their mark. Letters concerning prisoners at Berrima Goal, 1871-1872; letters written by gaolers concerning prisoners with whom James S. Hassall had contact in his capacity as Chaplain of Berrima Gaol; names of prisoners include James Vennell, Thomas Keevil, Thomas Hogan, George Kan also known as George Maher; letter received concerning a prisoner at Brisbane Gaol, Thomas Skuthorpe, 1874; and a letter from a prisoner at Brisbane Gaol, formerly of Berrima Gaol, William Edwards, 1878. Miscellaneous papers include fragments of notes and letters, n.d.-1895.
