• ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
  
  Department store Grace Bros was established in George Street, Sydney in 1885 by English immigrant brothers, Joseph Neal Grace and Albert Edward Grace. In the early 1930s, Grace Bros expanded into the suburban market, as changing transport routes in the CBD, as well as the Depression, had affected their city trade. Their first suburban store was in Parramatta in 1933, followed by Bondi Junction in 1934.
  
  Architects Morrow & Gordon worked on most of Grace Bros buildings from 1911 onwards, including their later suburban stores. Morrow & Gordon were the architects of the Bondi Junction refurbishment, announced in the Sydney Morning Herald in May 1954. Opening in 1957, the store was one of the first shopping centres in Australia to be designed around the provision of car parking.

• Scope and Content
  Comprises one charcoal and gouache aerial perspective drawing of a design for a new Grace Bros store on Oxford Street, Bondi Junction. The modernist design depicts a rooftop carpark and a glass curtain wall on the Oxford Street frontage. The drawing was most likely commissioned by the building's designers, architects Morrow & Gordon.
