  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

The Central Australian Gold Exploration (CAGE) Co. Ltd was formed in 1930 by John (Jack) Bailey, to fund an expedition into Central Australia to search for a gold reef that Harold Bell Lasseter (1880-1931) claimed to have discovered about three decades earlier. The expedition set off in July 1930, however, distrust and dissension grew as months passed without a discovery, leading to Lasseter continuing on his own and eventually dying of starvation early in 1931. A second expedition coordinated by CAGE in 1931 found Lasseter's emaciated body but no gold.
