  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

This collection of photographs cover the early years of Hudson Brothers involvement in the construction of rolling stock in New South Wales. The photographs depict the early years of the Clyde Factory site near Granville. When opened in 1882 this factory was one of the largest engineering works in Australia and one of the most modern, being modelled on the ‘Wason Works’ railway factory in Massachusetts, USA.
These photographs reflect the early history of the Clyde Engineering Company which was re-formed from Hudson Brothers after it collapsed in 1899. The Clyde Engineering Company occupied the same site, and used the same buildings and went on to become the largest engineering company in New South Wales in the early twentieth century.
