    Frederick Spencer Burnell (1880-1958), who also wrote as Fritz S. Burnell, was an author and poet. His seventy-one published works include short stories, poetry and travel writings.

  • Scope and Content
    Notebook used as photograph album, containing 99 black & white photographs adhered to the pages. Most images have manuscript descriptions in ink, some with names.
    The photographs document the activities of the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force in 1914 under the command of Colonel William Holmes on board HMAS Berrima, and at Palm Island, Port Moresby and New Britain (including Rabaul, Herbertshöhe and Friedrich Wilhelmshaven). They include images of the German surrender, the hoisting-the-flag ceremony, prisoners and local residents.
