    Henry Weston Pryce, a business organiser of Waverley, New South Wales enlisted 31 May 1916, aged 25 and embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A17 Port Lincoln, 20 Oct. 1916. He served with the 6th Reinforcements 9th Machine Gun Company in France, where he was wounded in action, 1 Oct. 1917. He returned to Australia 25 Nov. 1917. He began contributing to the Sun newspaper under the pseudonym Gunner 397, and was invited to join the staff. He wrote a column as Peter Persnurkus from 1922 and was feature editor.
