    Catherine Hayes, 1825-1861, soprano, was born in Ireland. She studied singing in Paris and Milan, and sang as prima donna with la Scala. She made a triumphant American tour and in September 1854 went to Sydney, and other Australian centres, followed by a return visit in 1855. She died in London in 1861.
