The writer and his brother William John Dumaresq arrived in New South Wales in 1825. After holding several government appointments Henry Dumaresq settled on his land grant in the Hunter River Valley in 1827. The letters are mainly to his mother, and friends in England describing publice and private affairs in the Colony.
