    Joseph Jones, convict, born in London in 1800, a wool stapler and sorter, was convicted of highway robbery at Norwich Assizes in 1834, and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was transported and arrived in New South Wales in November 1834 on the Hooghly. He served 6 years of a previous 7 year sentence, in Bermuda

    A defence of the convicts of Norfolk Island, which makes suggestions how their lot might be improved. Prefaced by a letter to Captain Maconochie, Superintendent. 24 pages

    A defence of criminals, stating that it is the poor conditions in which they live which cause men and women to take to crime, and a plea for these conditions to be ameliorated. Prefaced by a dedicatory letter to Captain Maconochie
