  William James Fairall of Waverley, N.S.W. was born in London in 1888. He served in the Mercantile Marine Service and enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy Nov. 1914, serving on HMAS Penguin, HMAS Fantome, HMAS Cerberus, HMAS Brisbane and HMAS Encounter
