  • Scope and Content
The diary is written mainly from Tempe, Cook's River, built by Alexander Brodie Spark in 1835, and described his day to day life and business transactions as property owner, merchant and shipping agent, and as director of the Bank of Australia and of various companies. Mention is made of his attendances at court as assessor, and of the arrivals and departures of ships for which he acted as agent. He also describes visits to Patrick's Plains, Newcastle, Parramatta, Wollongong and other places to inspect properties and stock and to visit friends.

Spark apparently did not keep a diary for the years 1844 and 1845 (see beginning of entry from 1 January 1846). Entries are incomplete for the years 1843, 1853-1855, and the diary is missing for the year 1847.

A microfilm of the diary, excluding 1852, is at MAV/FM4/1068
