Rev. Arthur James Small, 1854-1925, was born in London and arrived in Sydney, N.S.W., in 1863. He attended Newington College and was ordained in 1879, being immediately appointed to Bua on the island of Vanua Levu, Fiji. From 1884 he served on the island of Viwa for eleven years, next at Bau for eight years and then at Suva. In 1903 he was appointed Chairman of the Methodist Mission in Fiji. W. McHugh was one of his children - Scope and ContentIncludes an account of the massacre of Rev. T Baker and his party, 1867. Typescript concludes with this note : 'Duplicated by the Methodist Church in Fiji in January, 1965. Manuscript prepared by Mrs W. McHugh'
