    Published on the front cover of Walkabout, September 1950¶¶On 14 August 1950, the Australian postmaster General released two ‘definitive’ Australian stamps featuring a stylised image of Tjungurrayi. They were in circulation for 16 years until 1966. This resulted in the sale and worldwide dissemination of 99 million portraits of Tjungurrayi.

    "Australian Aboriginal. Autralia's aboriginal population is now estimated at approximately 54,000, of whom approximately 33,000 are still living a primitive nomadic existence, hunting their prey with spear, stone axe and boomerang. Others are engaged in helping with the working of the outback sheep and cattle stations, or are settled in Government-supervisied camps" -- printed label attached to the reverse

    "The head in this picture was used by Daphne Mayo in her design for one of the the panels in the doors of the new Pub. Lib. N.S.W, 2/9/41" -- in ink on the reverse
