James Kingsley Gorrell, bank clerk of Unanderra, New South Wales enlisted 18 July 1915 aged 23 years and embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A53 Itria, 18 April 1916. He served with the 1st Light Horse Field Ambulance, 16th Reinforcement in Egypt, Sinai and Palestine and returned to Australia 1 Nov. 1919 on board HT Nestor

2. Diary, 16 April-5 July 1916 describes embarking from Melbourne, Victoria for Egypt on HMAT A53 Itria, 18 Apr. 1916, activities in camps in Egypt including descriptions of towns and villages and No.3 Australian General Hospital in Abbassia where he was admitted with diarrhoea

3. Diary, 27 August-14 November 1916 includes work in No. 2 Canteen, Anzac Mounted Divisional Canteens, with notes on astronomy and Egyptian customs
