Lieutenant-Colonel J.W. Springthorpe, a physician of Melbourne, Victoria was born in Stafford, England. He was 60 years when he embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board Transport A55 Kyarra, 28 Nov. 1914. He was Senior Physician at 2nd Australian General Hospital in Egypt in 1915. In January 1916 he accompanied wounded soldiers to Melbourne, returning to Egypt later in 1916. He went to England 16 Oct. 1916 to work in English hospitals and study treatment of war neuroses cases. He returned to Australia on HT Nestor, 12 Dec. 1918 and was demobilised in Melbourne in 1919 - Scope and ContentIncludes medical extracts from diary, 1914-1919, with notes of his post war work for returned soldiers suffering from war neuroses, 1926, reports on medical matters 1915-1920, with a report on French methods of dealing with war neuroses 1918, and letters 1915-1920
