Hugh Orwin Monteith, survey draughtsman of Marrickville, New South Wales was born in Castlemaine, Victoria and enlisted aged 17 years, 13 Oct. 1915. He embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A62 Wandilla, 9 Nov. 1915 and served in Egypt, France and Belgium with the 3rd Battery, 1st Field Artillery Brigade. He was wounded in action 31 July 1917, gassed, 6 Nov. 1917 and wounded in Belgium, 10 Aug. 1917. He returned to Australia 12 Apr. 1919 - Scope and ContentMemoirs relating to active service in 3rd Battery, 1st Field Artillery Brigade, in Egypt
