• ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
  
  Louis Macey, a former member of the R.A.A.F, joined A.N.A.R.E. (Australian National Antarctic Research Ecpeditions) in 1947. His first expeditions were to Heard Island in 1947-1948 and Macquarie island in 1949 as a Radio Supervisor. He served on the first Mawson Expedition in 1954-1955 as Technical Superintendent and Second-in-Charge and received the Polar Medal award for his contrubution to the expedition. Between 1951 and1958 he served on 'Tottan' relief expeditions to Heard and Macquarie Islands and with the relief expedition on 'Magga Dan' to Mawson. He resigned from A.N.A.R.E in July 1958 and joined the Department of Supply in Sydney.
  
  Macey rejoined A.N.A.R.E in September 1970. From 1971 onwards he was the leader of expeditions, the Mawon Expedition in 1971-1972 which earned him a second award, Clasp to the Polar Medal, the Summer Based Party Mt. Cresserll, Mawson in 1972-1973 and Mawson Expedition in 1974-1976. He retired on his return in March 1976.
