  In 1896 John Norton, newspaper owner and politician, acquired the Sydney weekly The Truth, notorious for its sensational journalism. Norton married Ada McGrath in 1897 and their daughter Joan was born in 1907. Norton won the seat of Darling Harbour in 1907.
