William Foster Simmons, a doctor, of Summer Hill, New South Wales enlisted in 1914 and served in the Australian Navy and Military Forces in Rabaul before applying for a commission in the A.I.F., aged 27, 28 Mar. 1916. He served with the 6th Field Ambulance in the casualty clearing stations in the Bapaume and Pozieres areas in France. He returned to Australia on the Sardinia, 19 Apr. 1919 - Scope and ContentDiary describes work in the casualty clearing station and life in the ANZAC Corps 6th Field Ambulance at the front in France. The diary is marked 'Book III'
